Week 16 Appointment

This was a routine appointment to answer any questions we may have and to do an antenatal test to screen for birth defects. The Nurse practitioner was a hoot and didn't mind me recording Baby O's heart beat or taking a picture of her using the Fetal Doppler Heart Monitor (apparently first-time dad's are known for such shannanigans).

Listen to Baby O's first sounds...

(if you have a slow internet connection, the first time you
play the file, it will be choppy with lots of pauses while it loads.
Immediately play it a second time to hear it without any pauses.)

The photo album has been updated with some 17 wk pictures of Elizabeth.

Flashback...Our first date

September 19th, 1997 we went out on our first date to
celebrate Elizabeth's birthday at a restaurant called Hour Time.
Vivek: I can't believe I asked Elizabeth out to dinner after just meeting her 3 weeks earlier. I sent her 3 red roses on her birthday, one for each week I had known her. She tried to say 'no' politely, I just misunderstood it to be 'I would love to, but...'. Once we got to the restaurant, I asked if I could hold her hand, her reply was an emphatic 'No', I thought she meant 'No, not yet...'.
Elizabeth: I just meant "no." :) I learned at that moment that Vivek is not afraid to bring up whatever is on his mind (and I do mean whatever!). We had a nice evening together with lots of laughter and easy conversation. He was a true gentleman. When he dropped me off at my dorm room my roommates surprised me by hanging a big "Happy 18th Birthday" banner in our room. We took some pictures together and chatted for a while. Little did I know that that evening would be the first of many milestones in our relationship, "our first date."

Week 15

We've made it past the crucial 12-week mark!
For an appointment this important, it was a bit of a let down to be with the obstetrician for only 15 minutes. The coolest part was when she used a doppler to listen to the heartbeat (a healthy 158 bpm). Since this appointment, it has been absolutely wonderful to watch my wife slowly let go of the fear and anxiety that surround the early stages of pregnancy and embrace it. She has truly developed "the glow". Now at 15 weeks, Baby O, is the size of a peach (....depends on which book you read and what orchard you go to!) and Mommy is beginning to finally show a little. The picture above was taken on the front porch of our condo.
